Every registered domain has a minimum of two Name Server records which show where it's hosted i.e. by using these records you point your domain name to the servers of a certain hosting provider. In this way, you have both your website and your e-mails managed by the exact same provider. On the lower level of the Domain Name System (DNS), however, there is a variety of other records, for example A and MX. The first one shows which server manages the site for a given domain name and is always an IP address (123.123.123.123), while the latter indicates which server handles the emails and is always an alphanumeric string (mx1.domain.com). As an example, any time you enter a domain address in your web browser, your request is directed through the global DNS system to the company whose NS records the domain name uses and from there you will be directed to the servers of another service provider in case you have set an IP address of the latter as an A record for your domain name. Having independent records for the site and the e-mails means that you could have your site and your emails with 2 different companies if you'd like.

Custom MX and A Records in Cloud Hosting

With a cloud hosting plan from us, you'll be able to create or modify the A and MX records of your domain addresses and subdomains easily via our innovative Hepsia hosting Control Panel. Editing the default records will take two clicks and the creation of a new record takes just a few more clicks, so even though you may have never dealt with such matters, you won't experience any complications. We've got an extensive help section that'll make things even easier. If you'd like to change your email provider and you have to set up a number of MX records in addition to the standard two, you may choose their priority i.e. which record is going to deal with your e-mails first when someone sends you a message. Usually the new provider is going to tell you what these values should be. With our shared plans, you're going to have complete control over your domains and subdomains and you are going to be able to handle their A and MX records easily and at any time.

Custom MX and A Records in Semi-dedicated Servers

The Hepsia hosting Control Panel, included with our semi-dedicated hosting service, will permit you to see the A and MX records for each of the domains or subdomains in your account and if necessary, to change any of them or create new ones. Handling these records is very easy since all domains/subdomains are going to be listed alphabetically, so updating a record is as easy as entering it in a box and saving the change. Setting up a new one takes just a couple of more clicks and in case you experience any problems, you can check out our educational videos on how to create A and MX records. Our system is intuitive enough to be used by people with little or no previous experience, yet sophisticated enough to give you total control of all records and to allow you to have different A records even for domain.com and www.domain.com. If you're moving your emails to a different service provider and they ask you to set up more than 2 different MX records, you can select the priority of each one.
