If you want to forward a domain that you have to a different domain name or subdomain, a good way to do this would be to use a CNAME record. By setting up such a record, the domain name being forwarded loses all of its records (A, MX, and so on) and instead, it takes the A record of the domain it's redirected to. By doing this, if you are using a web design service by some provider that gives you a subdomain, you can use an actual domain and not only will it be pointed to the Internet site that you have set up, but it'll also appear in the Internet browser address bar at all times. Some other possible uses of a CNAME record are to point all the targeted traffic from different subdomains to their main domain, or to use the webmail service of your webhosting company by using webmail.your-doman.com, for instance. The latter will work only by setting up a CNAME record for a subdomain since such a record set up for the main domain address renders it impossible to use email addresses.

CNAME Records in Cloud Hosting

If you have a cloud hosting plan through our company and you would like to set up a CNAME record, it will take you just a few mouse clicks to do it. You can access the DNS records for all domain addresses and subdomains hosted inside your account via the Hepsia Control Panel included with each plan and adding a new record is as basic as clicking on a button, selecting the type, that will be CNAME in this case, typing the actual record value and saving the modification. In case you have never added such a record before, you will discover a Help section with a detailed video tutorial you can watch, or you can just contact us and we will help you with this task. If you have created a website using another provider, you want to use a private URL for your webmail or you would like to designate a subdomain to be used with the services of a different provider, for example Google Apps, all it takes is creating a CNAME record with a few clicks in your Control Panel.
